Parental & Family Support

Quality Care

As part of treating children with anxiety disorders, we recognize that anxiety disorders affect the larger family system as well as the individual sufferer. Therefore, we put a strong emphasis on incorporating family work as needed. We spend time with parents as the experts of their children getting a sense of the issues at hand as well as the family dynamic and culture.

We provide psychological education to parents about anxiety disorders and help them gain clarity around their children’s experiences. We also teach parents exposure principles as well as provide them with the guidance to use with their children. We help parents increase emotional attunement and learn how to meet their child’s anxiety in supportive and empowering ways.

We also help parents decrease accommodation behaviors often found to be maintaining and or reinforcing the anxiety. We help parents take back their power and teach them how to create an environment of healing both for their child and the whole family system.

All of our clinicians work closely aligned with Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions (SPACE), a model developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center https://www.spacetreatment.net and proven effective in randomized clinical trials.
